Engineered Timber Flooring

Engineered timber is a premium flooring option that delivers the genuine warmth and prestige of real hardwood while solving the structural instabilities of traditional solid wood planks. It is constructed in cross-directional layers, featuring a top veneer of authentic, high-quality hardwood—such as European Oak or Walnut—bonded directly over a multi-ply wood core or a cross-laminated timber base. This clever layering design allows the floor to look, feel, and sound identical to a solid timber floor because the walking surface is 100% real wood. Crucially, because the underlying wood grain layers run in alternating directions, they counteract the natural tendency of timber to expand and contract. This makes engineered timber vastly more stable than solid wood planks, allowing it to handle seasonal humidity shifts and temperature swings with minimal gapping or cupping. The premium nature of real wood does require compromises: the surface is naturally softer than synthetic laminates, meaning it can scratch under pet claws or dent under high heels. It also requires careful moisture management to prevent staining and warping, but it offers a long-term advantage that synthetics cannot match—the ability to be sanded down and completely refinished down the road.
